The Bon Dance

Young guys all in yukatas,
Dancing a Bon dance;

Which has patterns of polka-dots
And falls -ascending carps on them;

They dance slowly with measured steps,
In a circle, shouting "Korasho!";

The singer's tone heightens
With the sound of drums;

Girls each wears a white cloth on her head,
Moving with pliant gait, with their eyes cast down;

They all dance throughout the night,
Not excepting girls;

Even the moon having long hidden
Up in the dark sky;

Which peeps from time to time
From behind the clouds.
